The Cryin' House

A Story for Children who witnessed Family Violence

Julee S. Poole Ph.D.

Family violence has many adverse effects on children who witness the abuse. In her book, The Cryin' House, author Julee S. Poole gives voice to the children who are growing up in a violent home environment.

The book explores the pain and suffering that these silent victims have to go through and the dynamics of the family. Readers will be gripped by the dismal reality of domestic violence and its effects on children. At the same time, they will realize that there is hope and steps to be taken to help the child and their family. Although presented in the wrappings of a picture book, there are glimpses of truth embedded beneath the storyline. This is a gateway for children to explore their feelings and an opportunity for adults to provide effective support.

A letter from Sandra Dieterich-Hughes, LCSW- from  Safe House, Henderson, NV.

Dear Julee,

I recently purchased your book, “The Cryin’ House.  I absolutely love the book, the message, and the illustrations.  I have already passed the information on to my Children’s Advocate.  We are a Domestic Violence Treatment organization, and work with Victims and their children in both Shelter and Out-patient settings.  I have personally worked with abused and neglected children, and domestic violence victims for over 28 years; and this is one of the best books I’ve seen to help children understand family violence.   Thank you and Elizabeth Morgan Conwell for your wonderful contribution.

Sincerely,

Sandra Dieterich-Hughes, LCSW
